What this means is looking up photos of the landmark and finding out what has already been shot. They won’t teach you this in online classes, but it’ll help you avoid repeating the same thing and ending up with a photo that looks like it’s been downloaded from a stock website.
Another great thing you can do ahead of time is go to Google Maps and check out the street view of the location. This should help you scout for the best spots to take photos in. Don’t forget to check out the light direction, as well as the times for sunrise and sunset in the locale!
Time Your Visit Well
Knowing that your purpose is to get the perfect shot, you might want to consider getting to the location early. This might require a degree of time management, but trust us when we say it’ll make the task much less challenging. You wouldn’t want to arrive when there are already throngs of visitors lined up to get their own photos. Besides, early morning light is the most flattering. Ask any photographer and they will tell you that they almost, always wait to plan their shoots around the golden hour. So do it like the pros!
Get Both High and Low Angles
Most people tend to take photos from the front and in landscape. While this can work and give you really good shots, it’s still best to try and create more interesting visuals. Instead of making investments in a drone, just change where you’re taking the photo from. Get low on the ground if you want something to look taller or bigger. If you want a panoramic view, you need to find higher ground. For example, if you’re taking photos of a crowd, try standing on a bench to get a different perspective on your subject.
Try Unusual Compositions
Are you the type to place your subject right in the center? Well, why not change it up? Remember, there are no rules when it comes to placement so you can really play around with it as much as you want. Your point of interest need not be right in the middle. What you want to keep in mind, however, is following the rule of thirds. Even the most experienced photographers credit this for creating the most visually pleasing photos.

There will be instances where you might not be able to avoid crowds or the lighting just isn’t right. Instead of giving up on the shot, use these to your advantage. A crowd of people can create visual interest and add more dynamic to your photograph. If the lighting is a little dull, use it to compose a photo that’s atmospheric.
