Martin Scorsese – 78

One of the major figures of the New Hollywood era is the American film director, producer, actor, and screenwriter Martin Scorsese. He’s widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant directors in film history. In 1990, the 78-year-old director founded The Film Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation and restoration. Other foundations that he established were the African Film Heritage and the World Cinema Foundation. He studied at the New York University, where he earned his degree in English literature. He later received his master’s in fine arts from the same university.

Scorsese’s first featured film was Who’s That Knocking at My Door in 1967 at the Chicago Film Festival. He established a filmmaking history by repeat collaborations with film technicians and actors, including nine films made with Robert De Niro. Some of the movies they both participated in were The King of Comedy, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, New York, New York, Cape Fear, Mean Streets, and The Irishman.
